Location: Northwest Florida in the Panhandle bordering the Perdido River and Alabama on the west and the Escambia River and Santa Rosa County on the east and the Gulf of Mexico.
 
Population: 294,410 (Census 2000)

Area: 875.57 Square Miles

Land Area: 662.35 Square Miles

Water Area: 213.21 Square Miles

County Seat: Pensacola

History: Escambia County, named for the Escambia River, was established in 1821 and was one of the first two counties in Florida. The derivation of Escambia is unclear, although it is probably of Indian origin. Tristan de Luna established a settlement at present-day Pensacola in 1559.
