Location: Northwest Florida bordering the Gulf of Mexico on the south, Alabama on the north, and Walton and Santa Rosa Counties.
 
Population: 170,498 (Census 2000)

Area: 1082 Square Miles

Land Area: 935.63 Square Miles

Water Area: 146.37 Square Miles

County Seat: Crestview

History: Okaloosa County was established in 1915 from portions of Santa Rosa and Walton counties. Okaloosa is possibly derived from Choctaw aka meaning ÒwaterÓ and lusa meaning "black." The combination of these two words may refer to the Blackwater River in Okaloosa County.
