Most biologists currently recognize eight species of Sea
Turtle throughout the world.
All species are members of the Cheloniidae family, with the exception of the Leatherback.
Black Sea Turtle (Eastern Pacific Green Turtle): Cheloniaagassizii
Flatback Sea Turtle: Natator depressus
Green Sea Turtle: Chelonia mydas
Hawksbill Sea Turtle: Eretmochelys imbricata
Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle: Lepidochelys kempii
The smallest and most endangered of all marine turtles.
Leatherback Sea Turtle: Dermochelys coriacea
The only member of the Dermochelyidae Family; their backs are covered with leathery skin rather than
scutes. Largest of all turtles.
Loggerhead Sea Turtle: Caretta caretta
Olive Ridley Sea Turtle: Lepidochelys olivacea
