Be a part of our team - Adopt-a-page!
Editor Program Information

FloridaSMART is among the leaders in the next generation of searching the web. We are a human-edited directory that strives to make it easier to find what you are seeking on the ever-expanding Internet. By keeping our directory human-edited, we are able to maintain better quality of links and information.  Because we are human-edited, we need editors to help maintain the links.

We are looking for people who are interested in sharing their knowledge and helping to build the most comprehensive Florida Directory on the Internet.

If you are interested in joining with an exciting Florida company and becoming part of our fun team, consider adopting a page or section of FloridaSmart and join our team today!

No web design experience is required, just a desire to surf and research your topic on the web!

FloridaSMART is geared toward providing quality information for each topic. All topics will have specific sub-categories, however, editors have the freedom to add appropriate sub-categories, add their own approved articles, project pages, activity pages, and basically add their own personal touch to their directory!  We want you to have fun with it! That's why we give each of our Editors their own web page to add additional topic information, projects, articles, etc.

What's Required?

  • A knowledge of searching and researching on the web.
  • A knowledge of how to determine a bad link or a link that has changed it's
URL (the location of the website, i.e. http://www.thesitename.com).
  • Good written communication skills to describe the links you are recommending.
  • A commitment and dedication to helping to build the best Florida directory on the internet!

How do I edit a directory?

  • Check the links at least once a month to weed out bad links and sites that have changed URLs.
  • Add brief descriptions to each link to help our visitors know more about it. (FloridaSMART holds the non-exclusive rights to publish and modify your descriptions of the web pages you are reviewing)
  • Search for new links each month to be added to the directory. Remember, quality links are what keep visitors coming back.
  • Keep your directory easy to navigate, suggest new sub-categories as necessary.
  • Send updates to your Content Manager to report bad links, links to be added into the various sub-categories, additional sub-category information, etc.

What's in it for me?

  • The opportunity to be a part of a fast growing and exciting Florida Directory.
  • Work experience for future job opportunities.
  • Recognition as a FloridaSMART Adopt-a-page Editor with a banner to display it on your own site.
  • Recognition on the pages of FloridaSMART that you Adopt. You choose the type of recognition that will be displayed on the pages you manage: picture, name, degree, occupation, business, etc. This information will appear at the bottom of the pages between the listings and the footer. (only upon request)
  • A link to your homepage (Great way to build recognition and traffic to your site.) Please note, you cannot link to a page that directly competes with the directory you manage. (only upon request)
  • The opportunity to earn income doing something you enjoy, right from your own home. (Please note that Adopting a page is a voluntary opportunity and no income is guaranteed.) Top Editors may receive a bonus at the end of each quarter based on advertising that appears on their pages.

Additional Benefits for Schools, Teachers and Classes:

  • Free web page/s to display your project or any additional information on the subject that your class could not locate on the internet. (For example: if you students find information about a specific Florida Flower in a book that could not be found online, this is a great way to add to the list of links for Florida Flowers by adding your own page of research!) This page can also be used to add an article, classroom activity ideas related to the subject, etc. In short, this page is where you can expand your topic to help others find the information online.
  • A certificate at the end of your research period distributed to each student who participated, teachers who participated and the school who supported participation.
  • Prizes will be awarded at the end of each school year to the classes who showed the greatest commitment.

How do I get started?

  • Complete the FloridaSMART Adopt-a-page Editor Form. You may apply for more then 1 page or section.
  • You will then be contacted by our Content Manager who will provide you several helpful tools and tips including a website URL for adding your own topic research. (Use of this page is optional).
  • All FloridaSMART Editors are considered to be volunteers and/or outside contractors (if paid bonuses). Any bonuses earned will be paid quarterly.
