Teachers and Educators Participate in Building Florida Knowledge on the Web!

FloridaSMART started as an educational directory for Florida and has remained committed to provided the best educational links specific to Florida.

Educators, help build the largest Florida Subject directory on the web by participating in our Adopt-a-page editor program. This program will help students and educators save time searching and researching by building on each others knowledge and research in one reliable place - FloridaSMART!

Choose any Florida Subject currently in your curriculum (i.e. Florida Frogs, Florida Wetlands, Florida Government, etc.) and then add internet research to your curriculum. Add and update links on the FloridaSMART Directory page that corresponds to your subject. (Note that all links added must pertain to Florida within the subject).

It is easy and allows your students to see their hard work recognized!

What your class receives for their efforts and commitment for helping to build a better Florida Educational oriented directory:

  • Free web page/s to display your project or any additional information on the subject that your class could not locate on the internet. (For example: if you students find information about a specific Florida Flower in a book that could not be found online, this is a great way to add to the list of links for Florida Flowers by adding your own page of research!) This page can also be used to add an article, classroom activity ideas related to the subject, etc. In short, this page is where you can expand your topic to help others find the information online.
  • Recognition as a FloridaSMART Adopt-a-page Classroom with a banner to display it on your own site.
  • Recognition on the pages of FloridaSMART that you Adopt. You choose the type of recognition that will be displayed on the pages you manage: school name, classroom, group name, nickname etc. This information will appear at the bottom of the pages between the listings and the footer (only upon request).
  • A link to your school or classroom homepage (only upon request).

Your students will also have the pride and satisfaction that the work they complete in helping to build the FloridaSMART directory will be recognized and will be helpful to others.

Requirements and How to get started

  • The only requirements are to complete the FloridaSMART Adopt-a-page Editor Form and let us know what page or pages you would like to Adopt and enthusiasm!
  • You will then be contacted by our Adopt-a-page (AAP) Manager who will provide you several helpful tools and tips including a website URL for your class project. (Use of this page is optional).

How to Edit the Pages

  • The best way to start is to introduce the site to your students and have them go through the links that are already listed. You can have them critique them, write descriptions for them, or report any bad links. In finding a bad link, they can try to find what happened to the link and update the URL. Note, if you are starting a new subject page that does not yet exist, this first step is obviously not needed.
  • Once they are familiar with the links that are already there, it is time to start the research and search for additional links to be added.
  • While finding links pertaining to the subject, students should describe the site they are recommending be added to the directory.
  • Teachers can send updates to your AAP (Adopt-a-page) Manager each day, once a week or at the end of your project, it is up to you. We recommend that you send them as often as possible so that the students can see their updates and be encouraged to find more.

Please note FloridaSMART has the right to refuse any links and to remove any participants in the Adopt-a-page Program at any time we deem necessary.

FloridaSMART holds the non-exclusive rights to publish and modify all site descriptions submitted to us. FloridaSMART also holds the non-exclusive rights to publish the web page that your class creates for our site.
