Florida Art Classes & Schools

Florida is home to several Art and Design schools, the most popular of which is Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota. An excellent art education can be gained at many of Florida’s other colleges and universities as well. The University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida State University in Tallahassee, and the University of South Florida in Tampa all rank on U.S. News’ top 100 fine art graduate schools in the country. If you’re looking to learn about art without getting a degree, there are many art classes in cities around the state.

Art Center Sarasota is a center for all things art in a city that fosters all kinds of artistic endeavors. It is a member-based organization that offers workshops, classes, demonstrations, and youth programs to educate everyone from novice to professional artists. Art Center Sarasota

Formerly known as The Winey Wench and located in the Oviedo Mall is Calliope Street, a fun shop that offers canvas and wine painting classes. Classes are approximately two hours long, and you are encouraged to pack your own little picnic or other wines if you would like. Check the calendar for the scheduled paintings for certain dates and times, and unleash your artistic side! 

Founded in 1975, the Crealdé School of Art has worked to bring hands-on art experiences to the community and people of Central Florida. It provides comprehensive art instruction, interaction with professional artists, gallery exhibitions, lectures, various activities and events, and outreach programs all in an effort to promote the arts, diversity, and the preservation of cultural heritage. The exhibitions, although changing, all provide some form of education for the visitors to the school, and are free to view. The school also has an outdoor Contemporary Sculpture Garden available for viewing with over 60 pieces of outdoor art and educational panels.

The school offers a variety of classes including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, glass, and photography, and offers several workshops throughout the year for these art mediums as well. Since 1995, the Lake County Museum of Art has served as an art center, community center, and nonprofit organization. It offers rotating exhibits, art classes for all ages, and membership programs in an effort to enrich the community. Current classes offered are a kid's class, watercolor painting, and a summer camp. The LCMA also has a membership program and relies on donations and sponsorships to continue to raise awareness and provide artistic experiences for the community.

The Leesburg Center for the Arts, established in 2000, was founded as an artistic hub for artists and those interested in the arts in Leesburg, Florida. It provides educational and awareness opportunities and hopes to inspire the community through the use of art and culture. Not only does it offer a gallery of exhibitions, but the Center also offers events like the Night Market and Boho Fest and programs for both children and adults. They offer summer camps for kids, and various drawing, painting, and art nights for the adults. 

Leesburg Center for the Arts also offers unpaid internship positions and volunteer opportunities for those interested in helping the Center directly. They also have groups and clubs that meet regularly throughout the year. A combination community and art center, Mount Dora Center for the Arts works to encourage an understanding and appreciation of art and culture through various art exhibits of original art, educational programs, outreach programs, and an arts festival. The Center offers classes in photography, ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking, and various kid's summer camps. You can also volunteer for several different positions throughout the year in order to help support the classes, camps, and exhibitions.

One of the big things the Center puts on each year is the Mount Dora Arts Festival. Held on the first weekend of February each year, the festival brings in artists from across America to exhibit and sell their art while offering visitors entertainment, food, and shopping. Going strong for over 45 years, the Arts Festival is a must-do for Mount Dora natives and tourists alike!

Osceola Arts is the center for all things arts in Osceola county both in the performing arts and the visual arts. They offer art classes for people of all ages and showcase local art in their three gallery spaces. They also put on concerts and a fun filled theater season for patrons to experience all kinds of performing arts as well.

Osceola Center for the Arts

Founded in 1966, the South Lake Art League was created "to encourage and promote all forms of art and its appreciation." It offers a wide variety of events and classes throughout the year. They host two photography shows during the year, one in spring and one in summer, as well as a spring and fall art show. Some of the classes they offer include photography, colored pencil, basket weaving, kids art classes, and adult drawing classes. To enroll in the classes, interested participants must be a member of the South Lake Art League. Information on membership fees and class schedules can be found on their website. 

The Artful Giraffe in Sarasota is an art gallery, gift shop, and pottery studio. Guests can peruse the different art in the store or make some of their own art. Arts and crafts classes are offered at varying prices.

The Studios of Key West is an artistic space where local artists can rent studio space, show there work, and attend lectures and workshops. They bring the arts of all kinds to the public in the form of art shows and a concert series.

The Winter Garden Art Association is an integral part of Winter Garden history, working to promote the community's cultural and educational programs and to encourage and foster individual creativity, community involvement, and promote the appreciation, education, and availability of the arts. By offering these programs, the WGA Association ensures that the Winter Garden community has access to art programs and a facility to explore these and other artistic outlets. They offer a variety of classes for people of all ages: kid's workshops, paint nights, drawing classes, and other workshops on a rotating basis.
