Okaloosa County

Okaloosa County is located in Northwest Florida bordering the Gulf of Mexico on the south, Alabama on the north, and Walton and Santa Rosa Counties. 

Okaloosa County was established in 1915 from portions of Santa Rosa and Walton Counties. Okaloosa is possibly derived from Choctaw meaning "water" and Lusa meaning "black" referring to the Blackwater River in Okaloosa County.

Eglin AFB is a U.S. Air Force base located in the Florida panhandle in Oskaloosa County. A large base, it is home to many military tenant commands and hosted by the 96th Air Base Wing who test and evaluate Air Force weapons and other supporting systems.

Okaloosa County School District is headquartered in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. It has authority 54 schools altogether serving over 30,000 students.

The Niceville Public Library is part of the Okaloosa County Public Library Cooperative. Library cards are free to all residents of Okaloosa County.

The Okaloosa County Public Library Cooperative is made up of 6 libraries in Crestview, Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Mary Esther, Niceville, and Valparaiso. There is also a library lending machine in Baker.

The Santa Rosa Mall is the perfect place to get your shopping done while you're in the panhandle. You'll also find a Regal Cinemas movie theater and tons of events and entertainment for the whole family.

The Valparaiso Community Library is a library in Valparaiso. It is part of the Okaloosa County Public Library Cooperative.

We are a group of home educators that reside in Okaloosa county on Florida's beautiful Emerald Coast. We see childhood as a natural process and as such seek for the most appropriate and natural approaches to raising and teaching our children. 

GCCHEA, a Christian homeschool group, is one of the largest homeschool groups in the area. A large close-knit community of homeschoolers in Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton Counties offers an extensive forum and activities planned by the members.
