City of Boca Raton, Florida

The name was first seen on maps in Spanish as "Boca de Ratones" meaning “Estuary of Reef,” referring to the rocky seafloors. Boca Raton has a deep and rich history, weaving through several wars and economic booms. Today, it is one of the wealthiest cities in southern Florida. Many buildings in the area have a Mediterranean Revival or Spanish Colonial Revival architectural theme, which were inspired by resort architect, Addison Mizner. Today, Boca Raton has a strict development code for the types and sizes of commercial buildings, building signs, and the advertisements that may be constructed within city limits. There are no billboards with the exception of one that was grandfathered in upon annexation, and there are no outdoor car dealerships.
