City of Deerfield Beach, Florida

In 1898, this town established its own post office. It had 20 residents, and was named Deerfield for the deer that grazed along the Hillsboro River. As railroads began to weave across the country, the small city gained more and more residents as well as some visitors. In 1939, the name was officially changed to Deerfield Beach to let tourists know that they had a beach.
