Ellenton, Florida

Ellenton is located in Manatee County, Florida. A Major by the name of George Patten and his wife, Mary, purchased the property in 1870 and named the area Ellenton after his daughter Ellen. Ellenton is a site for many historic buildings and its oldest structure is the Gamble Plantation, which was built between 1845 and 1850.

The Judah P. Benjamin Confederate Memorial at Gamble Plantation Historic State Park is the only surviving plantation house in South Florida. Once a 16-acre sugar plantation, the preserved mid-19th-century Antebellum mansion is now a portal to the past, allowing visitors to experience a bygone era in Florida's history.
