City of Inverness, Florida

Inverness is a city in Citrus County, Florida. Since the Florida city lies at the foot Tsala Apopka and Henderson lakes, Inverness, with inver meaning mouth of the lake, seems to be an appropriate name. Inverness is best known for being a “Gateway Community” by the Florida Trail Association and has been recognized by the National Arbor Day Foundation and US Forest Service as a Tree City USA. Residents and visitors alike are welcomed to take part in the family-focused event of music, games, and crafts called the Great American Cooterfestival, named after the cooter turtle.

Fort Cooper State Park offers a wide variety of natural sights and wonders. To start, Lake Holathlikaha is a pristine lake that is best viewed by boat or while kayaking across its majesty. Fort Cooper also boasts 700 acres of fertile lands covered in hiking trails to take in the beauty of Florida.
