Hernando County Parks and Recreation
Hernando County is home to many parks, sports complexes, and activities to check out. This article will focus on the Tom Varn Stadium, a slew of summer camps for kids, and the Delta Woods Park which all offer their own reasons for leaving the house.
Tom Varn Stadium
The city of Brooksville is home to the Tom Varn Stadium, which was dedicated to the local coach in 1997. The recently constructed girls softball complex, part of the stadium grounds, is one of the finest in the Southeastern United States. The complex features professional style locker room facilities, jacuzzis, and showers to provide a reprieve to players from those hot days of playing in the Florida Sun. The stadium seats 500 spectators and features a press box and concession amenities.
Hernando County is home to a flurry of summer activities for children. Summer 2018 saw camps for Sports of several varieties including Basketball, Weeki Wachee Kayak Days, Volleyball, Horsin’ Around, Kids Cooking, Outdoor Adventure, Football, Kayak-Spring, and Rays Day. At Rays Day, kids attend a real Tampa Bay Rays game and even get to run the bases at the end of the game. Variety is the name of the game for kids summer camps in Hernando County, and choosing just one way to get off the house will be the only challenge this and every summer.
Delta Woods Park
Delta Woods offers a wide range of activities for all ages and activity levels. Located in Spring Hill on 20 acres of land, park goers will find an activity center where they can participate in classes and coaching in activities like Taekwondo and outside events like Cheerleading, Dance, and Tennis. Other amenities include gazebos, picnic tables, ½ mile of walking trails and fields, and courts for a variety of sports like Soccer, Basketball, and Bocce ball. The recently built Born Learning Trail also provides an array of nourishing activities for young walkers to participate in, while still leaving plenty of time for hopscotch.
Hernando County Parks and Recreational services give plenty of reasons to get outside and participate in your community all year round. Activities, sports, classes, and everything in between are available for children and adults alike. With new additions being added and old favorite waiting for your visit, the only question is what you want to do first.
