Orchestras, Symphonies, & Operas

Florida is great place to experience classical music at its finest. Most of the major cities in Florida – including Miami, St. Petersburg, Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville – have at least one orchestra or opera company. These companies put on several performances a year featuring classical music from various time periods as well as modern symphonic pieces.

Central Florida Community Arts is a nonprofit musical arts organization for all ages. This cultural community includes Choir, Orchestra and Children & Youth Arts programs with seasonal productions. Music lessons, workshops and classes are also offered through the School of Performing Arts.

Perkins Block was a department store opened in 1890 with an opera house on the top floor. Today the opera house has been renovated and serves as a home for the performing arts in Monticello area.

The Sarasota Opera House opened in 1926 as a multi-purpose Mediterranean Revival style venue. It was purchased by the Sarasota Opera Company in 1979, and has been the home to their performances and many others ever since!

The South Florida Symphony Orchestra performs in three main places, Miami, Key West, and Fort Lauderdale. They aim to bring the arts to as many people in South Florida as possible.
