Spanning over 1600 acres, the Hontoon Island State Park is home to all different types of Florida wildlife ranging from warblers to limpkins to kingfishers. In addition to the vast variety of wildlife the Hontoon Island State Park is a place that offers primitive camping, boating, bicycling, paddling, and more.
The Hontoon Island State Park has proof of Native American habitation from thousands of years ago like the ancient owl totem. The Hontoon Island State Park’s visitor center has replicas of the ancient owl totem as well as the day use area.
The island is only accessible via a park ferry which runs starting at 8:00 a.m. until one hour before sunset and via private boat.
