Christmas, Florida

On December 25, 1837, about 2,000 U.S. Army soldiers and Alabama Volunteers arrived and constructed a fort. They named it Fort Christmas to honor the day of its establishment. The fort was one of over 200 forts built during the Second Seminole War. Today, the area still pays homage to the holiday, with many of the street names attributed to the names of Santa’s reindeer and other festive terms.
