The name "Clear Water" might have come from a freshwater spring flowing from near where the city hall building is located today, but could have come from the many freshwater springs scattered about the city. During World War II, the city became a major training base for US troops who were headed for Europe and the Pacific. Almost every hotel in the area was once used as barracks.
