Cypress Gardens, Florida

Cypress Gardens opened on January 1936 as a botanical garden and was billed as Florida’s first theme park. Known for its ski shows, it became a landmark for the sport and the home of 50 world records that were broken there. When Disney’s Magic Kingdom opened in 1971, competition for guests increased, and continues to increase as the Walt Disney Company and other continued building parks. As of 2011, the botanical garden was preserved inside the newly formed Legoland Florida.
