City of Newberry, Florida

Newberry is a city located on the southwest side of Alachua County, Florida. Initially developed as a mining town, the city has since turned to agriculture and has seen much success with producing watermelons. Watermelons are so much a part of Newberry’s tradition that the city hosts an annual Watermelon Festival, first held in 1946. The highlight of the small town on daily basis is its Main Street. Old buildings line a few blocks that have stood since the town's creation and the little stores and thrift shops are pretty welcoming.
