MacArthur Park is a natural barrier island that provides refuge for several endangered plant and animal species, mainly because it features a rare mixture of coastal areas, along with two distinct types of tropical forests: hardwood hammock and mangrove. Many species of birds and rare turtles can be found here. This also makes MacArthur State Park popular for all types of water sport enthusiasts.
