Town of St. Leo, Florida

In 1889, the Benedictines established the monastery of St. Leo and St. Leo College on this land. It was originally just farmland owned by a former judge, but became much more with this new establishment, though it is still a largely rural area today.

Saint Leo University is a Roman Catholic liberal arts college in Saint Leo, Florida. It is home to about 2,000 on campus students as well as over 10,000 distance learning students and students studying at one of its 40 education centers. The main campus offers programs in Arts & Sciences, Business, and Education & Social Services. It is the oldest Catholic college in Florida, founded in 1889.
