History of Bayshore Gardens
Bayshore Gardens traces its origins back to the mid-20th century when it was developed as a residential community. The 3,200 acre property was purchased in 1955 from farmland that ran along the eastern shore of Sarasota Bay with the intention of creating a full service community with recreation areas, schools, shopping, medical facilities and neighborhoods. The incorporation of Bayshore Gardens as a Special Tax District in 1956 played a crucial role in the neighborhood’s development. The district enabled residents to contribute to the improvement of infrastructure, amenities, and communal spaces, fostering a sense of shared responsibility and community engagement.
The neighborhood’s growth was influenced by the post-World War II era, reflecting a period of suburban expansion and community planning. Bayshore Gardens was designed to offer a suburban lifestyle with a focus on family living and community amenities. The original homes which began selling in 1956, were mid-century modern style.
