City of Hollywood, Florida
As you may have guessed, Hollywood, Florida was named after Hollywood, California by a developer named Joseph w. Young. Young dreamed of building a place to film movies on the east coast when he founded the city in 1925. Many buildings were built in the Mediterranean style along Hollywood Boulevard to advertise this city to movie producers. A hurricane in 1926 left Hollywood severely damaged and its dreams of stardom were crushed. However, its location between Fort Lauderdale and Miami along the ocean meant that this city had a flourishing future as a beach resort town popular for tourists.
