Get Out of Creating and Into Selling!

For Entrepreneurs Who Love to Create but Struggle to Sell

I get it. You love to create. The ideas never stop. You’re constantly refining, improving, and building. Maybe you’ve got half-finished courses, products, or services sitting on your laptop, waiting for the perfect launch.

But here’s the hard truth: Your business doesn’t grow because of ideas. It grows because of sales.

As a creator, I know how easy it is to prioritize what we love doing (creating) and ignoring the part that will allow us to continue doing it (selling).

Creativity is your gift, but if you’re not selling, your ideas are just expensive hobbies. So how do you shift from always creating to finally making money? Let’s break it down.

Step 1: Realize That Selling Is Serving

If you’re avoiding sales because it feels sleazy or pushy, you’re thinking about it all wrong.

Selling isn’t about tricking people, it’s about solving problems. Every product, course, or service you’ve created exists to help someone. If you believe in what you offer, selling is just connecting the right people to the right solution.

Mindset Shift: Instead of thinking, “How can I get people to buy?”, ask:
“Who needs this right now, and how can I make it easy for them to say yes?”

Step 2: Stop Perfecting, Start Promoting

Creators get trapped in perfection mode—tweaking logos, rewriting copy, adjusting designs. But perfection doesn’t pay the bills. Action does.

Reality check: The people who are making money are not necessarily the most talented. They’re the ones willing to put their work out there.

Your New Rule: Sell before you create more. If you don’t have enough sales, stop making new things and focus 100% on selling what you already have.

Step 3: Make It Stupid Simple to Buy

A lot of entrepreneurs make it too hard for people to give them money.

Check yourself:
✅ Do you have a clear, simple way for people to buy from you?
✅ Do you talk about your offer consistently (or just once and hope people remember)?
✅ Do you ask for the sale or just hope people figure it out?

Quick Fix: Every day, ask yourself: “Did I make an offer today?” If the answer is no, you’re hiding from sales.

Step 4: Get Comfortable Talking About What You Sell

A lot of entrepreneurs are amazing at talking about their passion but freeze when it comes to talking about price. Sound familiar?

How to Fix It:
➡️ Practice saying your price out loud until it feels normal. If you hesitate, people will too.
➡️ Frame your offer around the result, not just the features. Example: Don’t sell “a coaching package”—sell “a stress-free business strategy that makes you money.”
➡️ Create a “signature sales script” so you always know what to say when someone asks, “What do you do?”

Step 5: Use the 80/20 Rule for Sales vs. Creation

A good rule of thumb: Spend 80% of your time selling and 20% creating. Most entrepreneurs do the opposite.

Here’s a simple way to apply this:
➡️ Monday–Thursday: Sell, market, promote, and follow up with leads.
➡️ Friday: Create or refine, but ONLY if sales activity has been done.

No more hiding behind “I need to make this perfect.” The money is in the sales.

Final Challenge: Sell Something Today

If this article hit home, don’t just think about it—take action right now.

Post about your offer.
Send a message to a potential client.
Follow up with someone who showed interest.
Make it EASY for someone to say YES today.

Because at the end of the day, an imperfect product that’s sold is more valuable than a perfect one that never launches.
