Winter Haven is a Central Florida city east of Lakeland. It is nicknamed “The Chain of Lakes City” after the 50 lakes that weave through it some of which are connected by canals. Winter Haven has a rich history of occupation since the early 1900s. More than 50 houses here are on the National Register of Historic Places. The first Publix Supermarket was opened here in 1930. 6 years later Cypress Gardens opened and became Florida’s first theme park. It was known for its beautiful gardens and the water skiing show that helped promote water skiing as a sport around the world. The site of park, which closed in 2009, is now the location of Legoland Florida. The success of Legoland has helped to bring more tourism to the city and boost the economy.
