Florida Tropical hardwood hammocks are located in the southern portion of the state with large hammocks found in Everglades National Park, Biscayne National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve and throughout the Florida Keys. The hammocks are closed canopy forests that typically grow on top of a mineral substrate such as limestone or shell mounds.
South Florida and Keys Rockland Hammocks are limestone isolated areas of land where pine and hardwood flourish located on Miami Rock Ridge, in Big Cypress National Preserve and in make up the forest areas in the Florida Keys.
Coastal Berm Hammocks grow on storm-deposited berms throughout the Sand Keys, Florida Keys and northern Florida Bay.
Shell Mound Hammocks grow on aboriginal mounds in south Florida.
