Pensacola-Ferry Pass-Brent Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is comprised of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties and the cities they contain.

Hurlburt Field is a part of the greater Eglin Air Force Base reservation. Located in the Florida Panhandle in Okaloosa County, it is the headquarters of the U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), the 1st Special Operations Wing (1 SOW), and the Air Force Special Operations School (USAFSOS).

NAS Pensacola Corry Station is a sub-installation of nearby Naval Air Station Pensacola. It’s primarily used to train military personnel in the Information Warfare Corps. The military station is located near the city of Pensacola, Florida, on Florida’s Emerald Coast. 

Located a short distance from the Alabama-Florida border and a 20-minute ride east to the City of Pensacola, Naval Air Station Pensacola lies a short 25-minute drive from the cities of Mobile, Alabama, Biloxi, Mississippi and New Orleans, Louisiana. The base and the attractions nearby make this a great place to be stationed at and a fantastic travel destination.

NAS Whiting Field is a U.S. Navy base in the town of Milton, Florida. Consisting of two separate airfields, one for training fixed wing aviators and the other for training rotary wing aviators, they are joined together by a common support area. Most future Navy aviators train at NAS Whiting Field as they pursue becoming fully qualified pilots. The NAS Whiting Field website states its mission is “to produce the military’s best trained Aviation Warfighter.”

Naval Hospital Pensacola is a U.S. Navy hospital located near the City of Pensacola, Florida, the westernmost city in the Florida Panhandle. Older than 26 U.S. states, it is in its second century of service and is one of the oldest and most respected military medical facilities in the country. It’s website states “It continues to provide health care to over 150,000 beneficiaries in its main facility and 10 branch clinics in 5 states.”

Perdido Key State Park is a popular destination those seeking a natural quiet beach that is perfect for swimming, shelling and enjoying the beautiful wide beachfront area. The white sand beaches and dunes covered with sea oats make it a gorgeous sight. The pristine barrier island beaches can be accessed from 2 locations that provide boardwalks to walk over the dunes from the parking lot, allowing for the preservation of the delicate dunes and vegetation. There are picnic tables for families, and a collection of endangered and threatened species to view. Surf fishing is a must-try activity at Perdido Key. It is popular among the locals and all skill levels are welcomed. 

Enjoy the beautiful beach line of the Gulf of Mexico when you visit the Topsail Hill Preserve State Park. This 1,640 acre park is teeming with wildlife, and is home to a variety of different habitats, perfect for wildlife viewing. From the beach to freshwater coastal dune lakes, longleaf pine forests to wetlands, Topsail has something for everyone. Enjoy 3.2 miles of white sand beach right on the Gulf of Mexico. Swim in the emerald green water, or try your hand at fishing. Saltwater fishing is a popular activity at Topsail. You could catch a pompano, or a king mackerel. Or head on over to the freshwater dune lakes and see if you can catch a bass or freshwater catfish. Fishing not your thing? Visitors are also able to kayak or paddleboard on the water.

The Navarre Beach Marine Sanctuary offers near shore artificial reefs in the Santa Rosa Sound and the Gulf of Mexico off of Navarre Beach. The reefs are positioned to be easily accessible by the public of all skill levels to view marine life and ecosystems inhabiting the reefs. Snorkel, scuba dive or kayak out to the reefs and explore the natural habitats and beauty of Florida's marine life. 

 

The mission of the Navarre Beach Marine Science Station is to promote the appreciation, conservation, and understanding of the marine ecosystem of coastal Florida through education and service. The center offers programs that address environmental issues, dune renourishment efforts, beach clean-ups, ethical fishing, water quality, and teaches respect for the marine ecosystems and delicate habitats of Florida. Learn through hands-on, feet-wet experiences, designed for students and schools in the area and visitors to the area. 

The Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center (NBSTCC) is working to conserve and protect threatened and endangered sea turtles through community education and partnered research. The vision is to impress upon the community the importance of sea turtle conservation through education and hands on learning experiences. They believe that this will make a global difference in preserving sea turtles for future generations. 

This center located on Navarre Beach, just as you cross the bridge inside the Navarre Marine Park. They operate year round with limited hours in the winter season. The conservation and education center is open to the public with a main pool exhibit featuring a sea turtle who is unable to be re-released back to the ocean. The center also offers interactive exhibits, jellyfish aquarium, shark tooth treasure hunts, and more. It's a fun day to explore and learn about Florida's treasured marine life.
